Minutes: October 15, 2017

The meeting was held at the Silver Creek Saloon in Belleville.

In attendance: Jeff Toenjes, Andy Glauber, Augie Werner, Tim Werner, Chuck Rathert, Gina Fey, Barb Maue, Diahann Gagen, Alice Laney, Dennis Grah, Larrie Wiggand, and Katie Kosten

President Jeff Toenjes called the meeting to order at 1:07 PM.

Barb Maue read the minutes from the Sept. 10, 2017 meeting.

Alice Laney read the treasurer’s report. The balance as of Oct. 15th is $2,017.08.

Jeff mentioned that the regional assignments have been posted on the IHSA website. Members, who were assigned, shared the locations of their regionals. Jeff reminded those members who did not get a regional assignment to make themselves available as line judges.

The SIVOA website is down. Jim Gallatin is checking with the provider.

The Capital Area Officials Association has created a website where officials can post their assignments. If you are interested in posting, or want to check on which officials have assignments, the site is ihsaps.com.

Althoff High School will apparently be changing the start time for their volleyball matches from 5:00 pm to 4:30 pm. The school will be contacted to confirm this change.

Jason Batty, the A.D. at Metro East Lutheran High School, has mentioned his interest in having the SIVOA assign officials for the school’s volleyball matches. Augie Werner will contact him. It was also mentioned that when Augie assigns officials, he will assign SIVOA members first.

The next meeting will be held on Wed., Nov. 15 at 6:00 pm. It will be held at the Silver Creek Saloon. This is the last meeting for the year. Members can enjoy food and drink.

The members discussed a situation from the case book concerning vertical backboards. The situation in the case book is not verified by any rule. Clarification from the IHSA/NFHS is needed.

Since post-season is upon us, Barb Maue did a presentation on the Terms and Conditions. These are the proper protocols that must be followed during the state series. Members discussed several items.

The topic of fan behavior was brought up, and how situations should be handled. It was stressed that in any fan related incidents, the situation should be handled by the administrator on duty.
