Minutes: Dec. 5, 2018 (Rescheduled from Nov. 14th)
The meeting was held at Silver Creek Saloon and Grill in Belleville, IL
In attendance: Andy Glauber, Wayne Wilhelm, Diahann Gagen, Alice Laney, Barb Maue, and Augie Werner
Wayne Wilhelm called the meeting to order at 6:10 pm.
Barb Maue read the minutes from the Oct. 14th meeting.
Alice Laney read the Treasurer’s report. The balance as of Nov. 18th is $1,647.66.
Since the 2019 girls’ state tourney will be held on Nov. 15-16, which is later than usual, the season will be starting a week later. The season starts on Aug. 12 with the date of the first contest being Aug. 26.
Jim Gallatin notified Wayne that the website is up and running. (www.sivoa.org)
The members discussed the post-season. No one from the immediate area was assigned to the state tournament. Teams participating from this area were Althoff, who finished 2nd in their class, and Nashville, who participated but did not place.
It was reported that Carol Cook, an official from the Highland area passed away, and George Davis, who had been ill and, in the hospital, was now back home.
Members were reminded about concussion protocol which is always a priority for all officials. Only the athletic trainer or a physician may clear the injured player to return to the contest.
Since the SIVOA does not have enough members to be able to provide officials to all the games in the area, Barb suggested that, if we want to get our assigning process going, we may want to consider using officials who are not members to fill those assignments. It was also mentioned that since one of the job requirements of the athletic directors is to hire the officials, many of the schools are not interested in using an assignor.
The next SIVOA meeting will be held at 1:00 pm on April 7th at Silver Creek Saloon and Grill.
Those in attendance were provided food and drink.
Meeting was adjourned at 6:35 pm.
