Minutes: April 8, 2018
The meeting was held at the Silver Creek Saloon in Belleville.
In attendance: Jeff Toenjes, Andy Glauber, Diahann Gagen, Alice Laney, Wayne Wilhelm, Darryl Cherry, Mike Cook, and Jim Gallatin.
An informal discussion preceded the meeting regarding when to card a coach for misconduct. A few incidences were shared among the group.
President Jeff Toenjes called the meeting to order at 1:10 PM.
Wayne Wilhelm read the minutes from the November 15, 2017 meeting.
Alice Laney read the treasurer's report. The balance as of April 8th is $1,498.72.
The 2018 IHSA Officials' Conference will be held in Peoria on July 20-21. In response to a letter from the IHSA concerning donations to help with the cost of the Friday night social and providing a door prize for the event, SIVOA donated $100 for the social and provided a $25 gift card as a door prize.
Augie Werner continues his role as assignor for SIVOA officials. Althoff Catholic High School and Metro East Lutheran High School have been responsive to the scheduling of officials for volleyball. To SIVOA members, Augie emailed 2018 ACHS Boys volleyball dates on 1/15/2018 and 2018 ACHS Girls volleyball dates on 3/31/2018.
A constant issue with the association is increasing its active membership. Wayne Wilhelm inquired about incentives for joining SIVOA. Association offers initial fee for new IHSA members, mentoring, continued education, assignments when possible, as well as a SIVOA coin. Alice Laney reiterated that an agenda could be sent out prior to each meeting so members know what will be discussed, including educational topic. As new president, Wayne Wilhelm will draft an agenda prior to August clinic/meeting.
Another suggestion by the group, is to invite a coach to address SIVOA members. (Perhaps ACHS or MELHS since these schools have used the SIVOA assignor.)
Jim Gallatin rebuilt the SIVOA website. Members can access site at www.sivoa.org. Jim updated the AD/Coach list as of April 2018. Changes are in green text.
Per email, Barb Maue contacted Okawville High School to host the 2018 SIVOA clinic. Tentatively, the next meeting will be held on August 19, 2018 after the clinic. However; the remaining meeting dates for 2018-19 have not been scheduled.
Alice Laney will email the SIVOA renewal application in the near future.
The members took a moment to remember Mike Mickelson who died on April 3, 2018. Darryl Cherry offered to prepare a written condolence from SIVOA and Alice Laney will make a donation in his honor.
Jeff Toenjes shared the 2017 TOURNEY NOTES form IHSA. These notes constituted good practices for R1, R2, and Line Judges. Jim will post the notes on the SIVOA website.
Andy Glauber and the other attendees thanked Jeff Toenjes for serving as president for the past two years. THANK YOU, Jeff!
The meeting was adjourned at 2:31 PM.
